Muona Foundation improved the livelihoods of poor communities by implementing projects that bring income to vulnerable families. One such project is the “Goats Pass on Project”.
Poor families are put into groups of ten. Agricultural extension workers organize training on how to construct goat kraal and manage goat farming. Ten poor families are given a she-goat each to keep. After half a year, the she-goats produce young ones and at four months old, the young goats are passed on to the next group of ten poor families to inherit and pass on to another group of ten poor families until all the poor families in the community have goats to keep and benefit From, through milk, goats skins, selling goats to earn money for buying food, paying school fees for their children and afford other essential family needs.
Goats to be passed on to the next families are bought in the same area so that they are familiar with the weather conditions and diseases of the area. Goats were vaccinated before passing them on to farmers. The project has been implemented at GVH Gatoma, Mlalama, and Mchacha 58.
