Muona Foundation is a non-governmental organization established on 22nd December 2006.
Muona Foundation is situated in Senior Traditional Authority Mlolo’s area in Nsanje District, the southernmost district of Malawi. Muona has a population of over 50,000 people.
The name Muona is the Senior Traditional Authority Mlolo’s headquarters and is situated in Shire Valley, in Nsanje North.
Muona is approximately 100 km from the commercial city of Blantyre.
Most of the people in Muona are subsistence farmers- people who grow crops enough for themselves and some for sale. Some people earn their living by fishing along the river banks of the Shire River. Livestock, sheep, poultry, goats, pigs, and ducks are also kept in the community.
