Muona Foundation Provides emergency food aid and non-food items to victims during disasters.
The World Food Programme (WFP) describes hunger as a discomfort or pain caused by a lack of food. Muona was declared a drought and flood-prone area by the Malawi government. The people in Muona experience food insecurity annually. The previous cyclones such as Cyclone Anna(February- May 2022) Cyclone Gombe (5 March -17 March 2022) Cyclone Freddy (February- March 2023) and the recent dry spell of February 2024, created severe food insecurity among the local inhabitants in Muona.
Muona Foundation has been active during such calamities and emergency food and non-food items have been distributed to victims in all affected areas. Most livelihoods in Muona depend on rain-fed agriculture making the local farmers severely vulnerable to disasters particularly droughts, cyclone-induced floods, and dry spells.
Provision of emergency food and non-food items during disasters is a short-term measure followed by the supply of sweet potato tubers, cassava cuttings, Maize seeds, and vegetable seeds as a medium-term measure. Long-term measures include training of people in the preparation and management of disasters.
Muona Foundation motivated by passion, dedication, and experience has been working with its partners in saving lives during emergencies. Food and non-food items have been distributed to victims during emergencies due to crop failure, climate change, disasters, and inequality.
